WorldSkills UK has just announced the launch of this year’s Digital Construction competition.
Students will work on a BIM project information model, will produce structural and architectural models, coordinate and manage the project information according to the ISO 19650, and finally apply costs and digital site execution workflows.
The competition is an evolution of the former BIM Competition, and is a direct reaction to on-going concerns about the data skills gap, developed with input from industry professionals and New College Lanarkshire. By changing the focus of the competition from modelling to how data is managed throughout the whole construction process, including how to design, plan, build and operate buildings, the competition will support the digital transformation of the built environment in the UK, according to WorldSkills UK.
The competition is intended for those studying, training and/or working in the built environment. The competition is based on the skills attained by trainees who:
* are studying or enrolled on a level 6 programme in England, Northern Ireland and Wales;
* are studying or enrolled on up to a level 9 programme in Scotland;
* have up to four years’ experience including education and a working environment; or
* who have achieved a level 6 qualification in the last 12 months.
The entry deadline is 19 May, with the regional competitions taking place on 9 June and the national competition being held on 17-20 November.
Competitors must use Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks and Autodesk BIM360 software to complete the tasks.
The competition is run in partnership with Autodesk.
